Another great way to stay informed is through our listserv.  We anounce all sorts of important things like when rides are leaving, updates about meeting locations and generally whats going on within the team.  Follow the Email List link on the left.

Membership in the Virginia Tech Cycling Team is not based on tryouts or anthing like that becaue we are a club sport with no limit on the number of active members.  All you have to do to be a member of the team and participate in racing is pay dues (the amount changes based on mountain or road) and get involved in what the team is doing.  That means come out to the meetings and social events, make new friends, and most importantly come out on our weekly rides to have fun.

Last year’s mountain bike season was certainly a success for the Virginia Tech Cycling Team.  The team finished in a convincing third, not far behind the perennial leaders WVU and NC State.

One of the many highlights of last season was Virginia Tech holding the Conference Championships.  The XC course was by far the toughest of the season and tested many of the riders.  The uphill time trial provided some climbing excitement and gave the climbers the same chance to shine as the downhillers.  Lastly, the Short Track race was held at night on the cyclocross course under the lights.

Tech will look to better their 3rd place conference standing this season.  This may prove to be a difficult task after losing the men’s top finisher Steven Gordon due to graduation.  Fortunately, Tech will have many returning riders who include Brian Mayer, Sam Corcoran, Erik Dahl, and Sarah Hanson among others.

The 2008 schedule looks similar to years past with the exception of a new race weekend at Pfeiffer College.  Conference Championships will be held at Appalachian State and the mountains should be an advantage to the Tech team.  This race will also serve as a nice warm-up for Collegiate Nationals held in Banner Elk, NC and sponsored by Lees McRae College.  The team should have a strong showing because of the close proximity of the race and will be sure to show that Tech deserves to be on the national stage.

    Fall 2008 MTB Schedule:
    Sept. 6-7  ASU
    Sept. 13-14 WVU
    Sept. 20-21 NCSU
    Sept. 27-28 VT
    Oct 4-5 PF
    Oct. 11-12 conference champs ASU
