Walker Mountains

This route features two mountains traversed by a remote, narrow, serpentine road that will leave you pondering "why is this road here, and better yet, what an I doing on it?" as you heave your way to the top.

You'll leave Blacksburg following Prices Fork Rd to it's intersection with Peppers Ferry Rd. From there you head for Fairlawn where you continue west on Rt 11 through Dublin and come almost to Pulaski. Here you start to migrate away from civilization and make your way to Robinson Tract Rd which snakes to the top of Little Walker Mtn then follows a hairy descent to Little Walker Creek Valley. The road takes in a dozen or so switchbacks to reach the top of Big Walker and the Bland County line. Descend to Mechanicsburg where you hit Route 42, one of the prettiest highways around, which takes you by the rather pristine Bland County prison farm. At the end of 42, hop on Route 100 north a few miles, then bear east to head through Eggleston and back to Blacksburg by way of McCoy Falls.

Round Trip Distance: 86.6 mi
